Tunstall Square Kindergarten is an inviting place which provides a secure and happy environment. It has a great nurturing and family feel, and we are proud of the reputation that this has gained us in the community. We offer a stimulating play-based curriculum, providing each child with opportunities to explore and create unique experiences.
Our play-based program places emphasis on the individual needs of each child. We encourage curiosity in all children and offer opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences.
Through these learning experiences we also promote children’s communication and language development and provide opportunities to share stories, reflect through play and express ideas.
We provide a wide range of activites and encourage children to express themselves creatively through music, roleplay and art.
We aim to develop the child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills in an environment rich in language and communication, which is also nurturing and fun.
Incursions, excursions and special event days are provided to further develop these skills.
Our four year old groups venture out into the community with visits to Coles and Tunstall Square. They also go on regular nature walks through St Clems Reserve down to Koonung Creek.
We welcome parent participation, and hold special days for family members to join in your child’s kinder experiences.
We offer a four year old program (46 children) of 15 hours per week over 3 days with 5 sessions to chose from and two three year old groups that each attend 5 hours per week over 2 days – details are available on our timetable page.
Our curriculum follows the Practices, Principles and Outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Learning Framework. More information about the Early Years Learning Framework is available here: Early Years Learning Framework
We believe that children learn best when their self esteem is nurtured and their environment is stimulating and inviting.
The Program Philosophy
Tunstall Square Kindergarten believes in the value of quality preschool education.
We aim to meet the needs and interests of each child enrolled at the Centre.
We foster the development of a positive self-image and believe that through confidence the child will learn to respect themselves, their peers and the kindergarten environment.
Our program promotes healthy and safe attitudes and this is supported by policies and programs such as Sunsmart, Healthy Eating, Active play and more.
We believe that children learn best through play and by having all their senses involved in the learning process.
We provide a balance between child/adult initiated ideas and promote and encourage skills that will benefit them not only just for school, but for their whole life.
Through our program we set up the environment to provide opportunities for the child to play at his/her own level alone, alongside others or in group play.
The environment is one that promotes safety and security, challenge and interest, with opportunities to explore, problem solve and enjoy learning.
